// PRESIDENT‘S MESSAGE //

One of our annual activities is providing Arbor Day tree-related information and hand-outs to interested teachers in any and all area schools who request them. Each year The Lafayette Garden Club and TreesAcadiana provide trees to the students to take and plant occasionally trees are planted on the school grounds. If you are a teacher interested in participating or a parent who would like your child’s class or school to participate, please contact us as soon as possible so that our Arbor Day committee might discuss this program with you.

And now, for more exciting information – TreesAcadiana has ordered the following species for our 2010 free tree give-away, with arrival of trees sometime in January!

The species available for 2010 will include limited quantities of Crabapple, Mayhaw, Persimmon, Wax Myrtle, Bald Cypress, Cherrybark Oak, Cow Oak, Live Oak, Nuttall Oak, Native Sweet Pecan, Red Maple, Red Mulberry, River Birch, Shumard Oak, White Oak, Willow Oak, and Yellow Poplar. This year we will have a large quantity of Bald Cypress. These trees will be available at Festival des Fleur April 2010, or upon their arrival date at the Bayou Vermilion District Operations Office at 350 Fisher Road from 8 am to 4 pm weekdays. Call 769-7283 for information or to arrange a pick up. Optimal planting time is through April.

Also, TreesAcadiana needs to staff some committees. If you are interested in the newsletter, organizing our next annual meeting, tree ordinances, tree distribution/potting seedlings, education, whatever else, please contact us at CadiStyle@aol.com
